AN EXCEPTIONAL WORK

On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of the Spanish seafarer and cartographer Juan de la Cosa, we are pleased to offer a limited edition of 485 facsimile copies of his original Mappa Mundi, which is currently held at the Naval Museum of Madrid. Created in the year 1500 in El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz), this document was the first map to depict the American lands discovered by Christopher Columbus eight years earlier.

This is the first and only marketable facsimile edition ever made of this singular, historically invaluable document, and it is also the first facsimile edition produced in Spain using only digital technology, in accordance with the parameters established by the Digigraphie® label.

This edition was produced at the request of the Naval Museum of Madrid, under its direct authorisation and supervision, and comes with a full guarantee of authenticity and fidelity to the original underwritten by the museum itself.
This exceptional edition of the highest quality was presented at the 2009 International Print and Contemporary Art Editions Fair, where it was enthusiastically received by a keen audience.
